Wagner Intensive Summer Program!

Very excited to announce that I will be attending the Wagner Intensive Summer Program in Ohio this July! The program is organized by Wagnerian Soprano, Jane Eaglen and Heldentenor, Timothy Mussard. It is specifically geared for singers in their 30's with big voices who are pursing careers singing Wagnerian repertoire. I am very honoured that they accepted me and I'm looking forward to participating in this exciting and challending program. I'll keep you posted about how it's all going.

San Francisco Opera Coaching

It's been an amazing 10 months since my last blog. I have started working on Heldentenor repertoire and am officially changing voice types from Baritone to Heldentenor! I was invited down to San Francisco to coach with Mark Morash and Sheri Greenawald of the San Francisco opera and went down for a week at the end of April. Mark and Sheri are wonderfully talented teachers and it was a real pleasure to work with them. After my intense coaching and lessons we decided that I should pursue the switch to Heldentenor repertoire. I will be heading back to San Francisco in August to continue coaching my new rep. Check out my next blog for what I'll be doing shortly!

Busy Year!

It's been a while since my last blog, but luckily it's because I have been busy. The winter season was full of singing, including 3 Messiah concerts as well as performing Father Christmas in Dean Burry's Mummer's Masque. After that I began preparing to sing the role of Major Domo in Vanessa with Pacific Opera Victoria in May 2011. Vanessa went very well and I had a great time performing with wonderful colleagues. I am now learning some new repertoire and getting ready for a visit to Ontario this summer. I will be coaching this new repertoire and may possibly start on a new and exciting path. In Fall 2011 I will be performing the role of Officer Krupke in Vancouver Opera's West Side Story. This is my first professional acting gig and I am looking forward to the experience!

Carmina Burana ...one more time

I just finished singing the Victoria concerts for Carmina Burana with the Victoria Ballet (no, I wasn't dancing). The concerts went very well and seemed to have been well received by the Victoria community. We're off to Duncan on Wednesday for one final performance at the Cowichan Theatre at 7pm. It's been a great experience getting to perform this repertoire as I understudied it when I was a student. This has been a good challange for me because the music utilizes my entire range, including a few falsetto coloratura passages and some wicked repetitive high G's! After the Duncan performance it's onto singing the Mozart Requiem on April 27, 2010 with the Vancouver Island Symphony in Nanaimo and my wife Natalie is the soprano soloist. Then in May I'll be heading to Vancouver to perform Curlew River with City Opera Vancouver. It's great to busy!
